The WG Architecture was established in 2006. It prepared, among other things, the architecture concept of the SDI Germany, which was adopted by the federal and state governments and the municipal umbrella associations as version 1.0 in 2007. In September 2010, version 2.0 of the concept was published. It describes the further development of a work and action plan as well as the design of an operating model for the components of the GDI-DE (geoportal, spatial data catalogue, registry).
In 2014, the version 3 of the concept was published under the name "Architecture of GDI-DE" modularly in form of three documents: "Aims and Principles", "Technique" and "Action Plan".
In addition to the architecture concept, the WG Architecture provides technical and strategic basics for the SDI Germany. For example, a key issues document for the networking of spatial data services and the role of geoportals was prepared in 2008. The WG consists of representatives of the federal and states governments. When required it cooperates with experts from economy and science.
