Disposition of the NGIS

Date 2014.12.30

In order to ensure the sustainable utilisation of geoinformation as an essential resource in the digital society, the Federal government, federal states and local authorities have recorded the requirements and benefits of geoinformation for administration, economics, science, and society within the framework of a national geographic information strategy.

Under the Open Government guiding principles of transparency, participation and cooperation this strategy is to be discussed with a wide public. Based on a first draft the online participation procedure for the National Geographic Information Strategy starts on  1 January 2015.

Experts from business, administration and science are also invited, like all interested citizens who want to join this project at an early stage, to get involved before the end of February 2015, and to actively help shape the strategy. Join the initiative and become part of this process and an open administration!

The results of the participation procedure will be evaluated within the Geodata Infrastructure Germany, as established by administration, business and science, further discussed and submitted to the IT-Planning board [as the sectoral policy-related body] upon resolution by the GDI-DE Steering Committee. The National Geoinformation Strategy will subsequently be published on the GDI-DE's websites under

The current Version 0.6 of the National Geoinformation Strategy can be downloaded  here.
